Freeform is revisiting Greek. The network has put in development Greek: The Reunion movie, which will bring back the characters from the original TV series for their five-year reunion at Cypress Rhodes University. Freeform announced the news at its upfront today in New York.
The popular series, which ran from 2007 to 2011 on then ABC Family now Freeform, followed students at the fictitious Cyprus-Rhodes University in Ohio, who participate in the school’s Greek system. Many of the plots revolved around fictional fraternities Kappa Tau Gamma (ΚΤΓ) and Omega Chi Delta (ΩΧΔ), or the fictional sorority Zeta Beta Zeta (ΖΒZ). The original series cast included Clark Duke, Scott Michael Foster, Spencer Grammer, Paul James, Amber Stevens Jacob Zachar, Dilshad Vadsaria and Jake McDormand. No word yet on who’s returning for the movie.
Series creator Patrick Sean Smith, along with series executive producers Lloyd Segan and Shawn Piller will executive produce the movie. It’s expected to air during the holiday frame.
Also in development is Angry Angel, a movie from executive producer Will Gluck, about a disgruntled angel who tries to make it back into heaven after being kicked out.
The network today also announced some upcoming events. “Freeform Fest” is a live event slated for summer 2017, described as a “collaborative and creative celebration between fans and talent in tribute to TV, music, art, comedy, fashion, film and digital media”. There will be performances, fan interaction, participatory activities, interactive art, food, drink, and sideshows along with live custom vignettes and a wrap-up on-air special, the network says.
Also, in the tradition of “25 Days of Christmas,” “Countdown to 25 Days,” “13 Nights of Halloween” and “Funday,” the network is adding two new tentpole movie stunts. First is “Man Crush Movie Week” later this month, with such movie favorites as The Notebook and the network premiere of The First Time. “Harry Potter’s Birthday” on July 31 will celebrate the birthday of everyone’s favorite boy wizard.
