Mourning the death of her father, a grieving daughter (Hara, Setsuko) meets one of his students (Saburi, Shin) and the two set out to travel to Tokyo. The two share a room en route and subsequently the former student asks Hara to work for him as a maid given that his wife is confined to a sanitarium and she could use the help as well. The relationship that evolves from there, and the complication of there being another man as well, forms a dramatic story.
