Sinopse

Em 1873, Sethe (Oprah Winfrey), uma ex-escrava, vive perto de Cincinnati com Denver (Kimberly Elise), sua filha adolescente. Sethe é surpreendida pela visita de Paul D. (Danny Glover), um velho amigo da época em que ambos eram escravos em "Doce Lar", uma plantação no Kentucky. Paul D. acaba se mudando para lá e logo vários mistérios são revelados, que começam com a chegada de Bem-Amada (Thandie Newton), uma jovem de origem desconhecida.
