Born in and raised in Texas, and having spent most of the 2000s as a semi-nomad, Benny settled in Indiana in 2007. He is primarily a punk musician, performing in bands such as The Enders, Gay Black Republican, The Involuntary's, and the Star Wars-themed band, The Yavin 4. Benny's first foray into film was in Hostly Harmless Pictures' first feature-length film, Time To Kill. In addition to appearing on-camera as "strip club patron", he assisted with special effects on the film, a task he would expand upon with HM&M's 2015 release, House of Whores.
