Writer/Director Darius Clark Monroe had no idea that his hobby of writing would supersede his dream of becoming an architect and lead him into the world of film.

In 2004, Darius graduated with honors from the University of Houston with a BA in Communications: Media Production. While at UH, he was a television production intern for ABC and the short-film coordinator for the 2004 Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival. In the fall of 2004, Darius enrolled at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Film Program.

While at Tisch, Darius wrote/produced/directed the award winning short film 'Testify', which has screened at over 40 film festivals worldwide including the Cleveland International Film Festival, London Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival, and the Hollywood Black Film Festival to name a few. 'Testify' was also a PlanetOut Short Film Finalist and can now be seen all over the U.S. and Canada on the LOGO Network and LOGO Online.

'Midway', another ward winning short film which stars Albert Hall (Apocalypse Now, Malcolm X) and Keith Davis (on Broadway in Julius Caesar and Festen), was a finalist at the 2007 American Black Film Festival and 2007 Angelus Student Film Festival. The film has screened at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Florida Film Festival, and Miami Short Film Festival among others. In February 2008, 'Midway' aired on HBO and Cinemax.

Darius' latest short 'Train' world premiered at the Palms Springs International Short Film Festival. 'Train'received Honorable Mention at the Kansas City Film Festival and was a Director's Choice selection at the Black Maria Film+Video Festival. Most recently, 'Train' was uploaded online to Vimeo.com where it was selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick.

As of 2011, Darius Clark Monroe is completing post-production on his next film, an autobiographical feature length documentary entitled 'Evolution of a Criminal' (recipient of a Texas Filmmakers Production Fund Grant, Spike Lee Production Fellowship, Warner Bros. Film Award, Cinereach Grant, Tribeca All Access Participant, and a Roger/King Finishing Grant Awardee).
