The story of a famously married couple - a film director and an actress, whose external well-being hid a strange contradictory relationship and a sense of fear that they carried through their lives.
The prologue of this story is the 85th anniversary of Lydia Polyakova, in the past the brightest star of Soviet cinema, who played the main roles in all the films of her own husband, director Konstantin Dalmatov. Now the times are different, Dalmatov's films are called nothing more than ideological agitation, and the director himself and his wife are hiding from the world in the country, trying not to let anyone near them.
Journalists attack the dacha, trying to interview Polyakova and find out how the idols of the past era live now. Dalmatov and Polyakova, not really understanding who wants what from them, are terrified that strangers will break into their home.
The audience sees the story of the dizzying triumph of this cinematographic couple and its behind-the-scenes drama - a story that began in the 30s of the XX century.
