Prague, 1610. The Emperor Rodolphe II lives in fear of a legend warning that the Golem, a living statue, will return to free the Jews from persecution. He orders the arrest and torture of the one man who knows the Golem's secret, unaware that he is precipitating the catastrophe he dreads.
