Directed by Mi Jiashan and starring Ge You, The Troubleshooters (1989) is adapted from a novel by renowned Chinese screenwriter Wang Shuo. It tells the story of Yu Guan and his friends who open a company called ‘Three For’, which provides services to make people's lives more ‘convenient’. They are soon called upon to sort out all sorts of personal problems, from dealing with tricky love affairs to swapping places with henpecked husbands in order to improve their clients' lives. A touching comedy, The Troubleshooters is full of humourous yet thought-provoking situations that have wider social implications.
