A unica coisa que achei meio complicado de entender foi que a Joan é a Kat mais velha. Como se passaram só cerca de 10 anos a mudança de aparência foi muito grande. Teria mais impacto se a trama da Joan se passasse uns 40 anos depois e mostrasse ela com seus 50 anos. Ai sim justificaria a diferença grande de aparência.

One of them later went on a shooting spree after his wife left him, killing her, their 5-year-old son, her son from a previous marriage, her new boyfriend, and one of his sons.
