É um compositor muito prolífico tendo produzido inúmeros trabalhos entre óperas, sinfonias, concertos, trilhas sonoras para filmes e outros trabalhos em colaboração com outros músicos. Tem dois filhos e atualmente possui residência no estado de Nova Iorque nos Estados Unidos e na província da Nova Escócia no Canadá. É defensor da causa tibetiana.
